A Couple of Hundred Thousand Dollars Later
What have we learned about hybrid infrastructure after investing a few hundred thousand in the CTO Advisor Hybrid Infrastructure?
I have a reminder that it’s been 2-years since we signed a 3-years agreement to host the CTO Advisor Hybrid Infrastructure data center within a colocation here in Chicago. The base rent is more than $100,000 before hardware and labor. In addition, we just dropped 6-figures on an HPE dHCI system as part of our modernization plan. So, what have we learned?
We’ve done some terrific hybrid cloud labs. Check out some of the projects at https://thectoadvisor.com/projects. The overall theme? You need the requirements of a private data center to go down this route today. We deployed a net new private data center. The stop and starts were frustrating. Moving from 10Gbps to 25Gbps networking proved more work than we thought.
However, the insights have been more than worth the investment. We have a better idea of the challenges enterprises experience when looking to integrate public and private infrastructure. As part of the CTO Advisor Virtual Conference, I’ll do a whole session on the lessons learned. Make sure to register for the conference. https://ctoavc.com
