Before you quit your job...
The great resignation is a thing... Some random advice from someone who did it.
Back in 2014, I burned out from my job at PwC. It was a fantastic brand and an influential role. Many of my executive-level anecdotes come from my projects at the firm. However, as I looked up the latter at the Manager, Director, Managing Director/Partner positions, the work-life balance didn’t represent anything like what I wanted. I knew my time at the firm was limited.
However, I didn’t have time to look for the perfect opportunity and serve my existing employee. So, I decided to use my then celebrity to find a new job. I did a whole podcast interview on the topic.
I say all of this to say, I relate. I know how you feel. I know the stress of the past 20-months. Before you leave a great job, count the cost. It’s not just the economic cost. It’s mentally taxing to leave a job and not have a job. A close family member did it about a year before me, and it took them years to recover financially.
As I like to say, yes, the grass is indeed greener on the other side. They don’t tell you what they have to spread on it to keep it green.
