Broadcom and VMware - You don't get to eat the cake!
Is Broadcom serious about VMware keeping multi-cloud products and services.
VMware has baked a cake. It’s the cross-cloud vision. Companies such as Walmart and JP Morgan Chase have demonstrated an appetite for a cross-cloud world. While neither talks about VMware in their solutions, VMware has been advertising a similar vision.
Many talking heads have predicted Broadcom will scrap much of the multi-cloud strategy to double down on vSphere revenue. However, Broadcom's current software president penned a blog post dispelling some of these rumors. Or did he?
For me, the math doesn’t work out. Krause claims that VMware will maintain the R&D needed to push the VMware multi-cloud mission forward. There’s a market for such a vision. However, I don’t know if I believe the software business comprised of a legacy security play and mainframe software company better understands how to get to cross-cloud than the current VMware leadership. Don’t forget, all the while producing another $4.5B in profit over the next three years.
Color me skeptical.
