Don't Forget about Spot (Instances)!
Cloud providers are experts at optimizing their datacenter resources. Spot instances can be a great value?
Do you have a low-priority batch or a stateless application that can survive random instance failures? You can save more than a few bucks with spot instances from cloud providers. Believe it or not, serverless and containers aren’t the only low compute options from the cloud providers. Each cloud provider has some level of unused computing infrastructure. Each one of the major providers offers that excess capacity in the form of spot instances.
Each spot instance you run is given lower priority to customers requesting full service-level virtual machines. A spot instance has no SLA, so if you are running an ERP instance in a spot instance and demand in that region spikes, your instance may be terminated. Not the best use case for spot instances. However, you have a batch process that can take a few hours to run, but if you don’t mind starting over a couple of times, you can save up to 90% off the cost of a standard instance.
