Getting Better - One Project at a Time
It takes 10-years to get 10-years of experience. The thing about doing hard things.
Happy Saturday, whatever (or is it whenever) time zone you live. I just read Alex Ellis’ weekly insider update. Alex is the leader of the OpenFaaS functions as a service open-source project. Alex has begun woodworking as both a hobby and something to make a couple of bucks in his spare time.
In his latest insider update, Alex compared woodworking to software development - practice makes perfect. Many of us use the weekend for self-improvement. For example, MrsCTO took me on a 1.5-hour walk. We talked about the future of the CTO Advisor and if we should make another Road Trip in 2022.
I don't particularly appreciate walking. It just takes too long to go 5K vs. running 5K. However, an old manager used to tell me, “Keith, it takes 10-years to get 10-years of experience.”
I can’t get the benefits of the deep conversations without the practice of walking, just as Alex can’t perfect these wrist rests or software development without the practice.
What are you practicing this weekend?
