Green Fields - It's more than new technology
It's rare when we get to deploy within a green field environment. It's fun from a technology perspective. But don't forget people and process.
People, Process, and Technology is the common refrain we hear when discussing transformation. However, it’s easy for us to get stuck focusing on the technology part of the transformation. As you are standing up new infrastructure in the public cloud, consider the processes we tend to overlook in these technology green fields.
Do you want an example? I’m glad you asked. Take user provisioning as an example. In the hybrid environment, we have to adjust security processes for no longer having centralized physical work locations. We can’t send an employee to HR or Security during orientation to get a new ID which cascades to creating an identity for IT systems.
We have the luxury of procuring cloud resources for collaboration and day-to-day knowledge work. However, we don’t have the anchor of the physical validation of identity.
How have you seen greenfield initiatives fail because engineers didn’t consider people and processes?
