It’s tough to get excited about HPE Discover 2022 Keynote. First, HPE announced the HPE GreenLake Enterprise Private Cloud. Wasn’t there already an HPE GreenLake Private Cloud? Well yes. But this is the Enterprise Private Cloud! I’ll have more details on the differences later. Second, HPE is now offering all of its products and services via HPE GreenLake, as promised by Antonio in 2019. Finally, HPE snuck in a cool announcement later in the day.
HPE is bringing ARM to the Proliant brand (HPE ProLiant RL300 Gen11) via a partnership with Ampere. The announcement is huge. I’ve talked to customers trying to roll out Ampere at scale. One of the challenges has been manufacturing issues with the lower profile OEMs. Customers have complained about getting servers with different firmware versions and manufacturing defects.
In theory, HPE offers the power of the Proliant brand behind Ampere processors. Again, in theory, HPE can offer Cloud Native application development platforms on HPE Proliant ARM-based servers. Customers looking to achieve their sustainability goals alongside building Kubernetes-driven environments look forward to GreenLake Enterprise Cloud.
