Infrastructure as Code is ... Code
I had a reminder from the CEO of RackN that infrastructure as code is primirary, code.
I got a chance to catch up with Rob Hirschfeld during Cloud Field Day 13. Rob and I go way back to when everyone met in person and ran 5K every morning during tech conferences. So we’d have some epic conversations around infrastructure automation.
Rob’s company RackN presented at CFD13 and discussed the advantage of immutable artifacts to automate the infrastructure as code pipeline.
More impactful was the conversation Rob had on the Day Two Cloud podcast. I had an ah-ha moment when Rob described how immutable code enables a change in culture between groups. Each group doesn’t need to use the same tooling but must have a process to integrate the overall pipeline.

Both pieces of content are well worth the time. I’d start with the podcast and follow up with the CFD13 presentation.
