Kubernetes is a Great Hammer
But what happens when you need to drive 10,000 screws vs. a few nails?
I have burnt in my mind that Kubernetes isn’t the best platform for building stateful applications. Google Cloud Developer Advocate and Author of Kubernetes the Hardway, Kelsey Hightower, has stated this over the years.
Kubernetes is great at abstracting the underlay to provide a consistent interface for developing and deploying applications. If it were a hammer, it would be perfect for driving nails.
But what if you needed to drive a bunch of screws into drywall? That’s where I feel enterprise storage has migrated. I’ve talked to no less than 6-startups focused on solving solved problems. IE replication. Replication for DR is solved. However, if you want to build stateful applications with Kubernetes, you need to change speeds and look at replication a new.
I went into details on the topic with Ray and Matt on the latest Greybeards on Storage podcast.

I present the premise that Kubernetes is a tiny subset of what most enterprise IT shops must focus.
