Memory Driven Compute
HPE called called it the Machine - I call it the data center of the future
Remember HPE’s “The Machine"? While you can’t find the marketing term on Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s site anymore, there’s still a reference on HP’s site. Now HPE calls it Memory-Driven Compute, what the rest of the industry calls it.
What is memory-driven compute? It’s the concept that as our data challenges get more significant, the best way to scale the solution is via large pulls of shared memory. Think of the ability of a set of machines in a single rack pooling and sharing memory via high-speed and low latency interconnects.
In theory, you can create a composable infrastructure that presents the entire rack as a single piece of hardware. However, in practice, there’s a lot of work to do. In this Micron-sponsored video, I shared my vision of the data center and the future technology needed to achieve it.
