According to a recent Bain survey, two-thirds of CIOs would like to use multiple clouds, while 95% of their spending goes to a single cloud provider. So what’s the mismatch here?
I believe this is an example of desire not meeting will. I’d like to have the stomach I had when I was 20. I know what it takes. But, I don’t desire it enough to put in the effort. Multi-vendor and multi-cloud are hard things to operationalize. At least compared to the speed of going with a single vendor solution.
Earlier this week, I had the option of delaying a project to achieve greater vendor diversity or selecting a single vendor to finish on time and within budget. Judging by these survey results, I’m not the only executive making similar trade-offs.
